The Mets will turn to David Peterson with their season hanging in the balance Friday. After considering Kodai Senga for the spot, manager Carlos Mendoza announced Peterson as the team’s Game 5 starting pitcher following the Mets’ 10-2 loss to the Dodgers on Thursday at Citi Field.

Attempting to avoid elimination against the Dodgers in the NLCS on Friday, the Mets will turn to left-hander David Peterson for Game 5. Los Angeles will counter with Jack Flaherty.

Just about everything has gone wrong for the New York Mets over the last couple of days. The team's usually sturdy starting pitching has collapsed, the offense has gone cold and the Los Angeles Dodgers have taken the first two of three games at Citi Field by a combined score of 18-2.

David Peterson made 21 starts this season — generally excellent, with a 2.90 ERA — before taking on a new role as a big-time playoff reliever.

If the Mets can stay away from David Peterson in Game 4, they will. But if not, then they may have to go with their pitching Plan B when it comes to Game 5.
