Microplastics Detected in Wild Dolphin Breath For The First Time
Microplastics seem to be everywhere in 2024, with new studies revealing the tiny contaminants in human brains, penises, and even human placentas. Now, new research has looked at the impact of microplastics on free-ranging dolphins in the USA and has found that even these intelligent cetaceans are not able to escape,
Study Finds Evidence of Microplastics in Dolphin Breath — Here's Why This Is Concerning
A U.S research team discovered the presence of microplastics in samples collected from dolphins, proving how far the plastic pollution has reached.
These Scientists Tested Dolphin Breath. They Found Plastic.
Their analysis detected microplastic particles in the breath of all the dolphins they tested. The particles included several types of plastic polymers, like polyethylene terephthalate, known as PET, as well as polyester, one of the most common polymers used in clothes.

Scientists are raising concerns after they found microplastics in dolphin breath. The study found a total of 54 unique particles across all of the exhalation samples when the animals came up for air. The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.
Microplastics detected in dolphin breath
U.S. researchers have detected microplastic particles in air exhaled by wild bottlenose dolphins, suggesting that inhalation may be a relevant route of exposure to these potentially harmful contaminants.
Scientists find first evidence that dolphins are inhaling microplastics, according to a new study
