Formula 1 has scrapped its plans to hold a rookie sprint race in Abu Dhabi in December, opting instead to revisit the idea in the future.

A plan to host an end-of-season race for aspiring drivers, dubbed the 'rookie race', is delayed until at least 2025 by Formula 1 bosses.

Formula 1 has delayed plans to host a unique ‘rookie race’ until at least 2025 after a meeting of the F1 Commission on Wednesday. The original plan was to host a sprint race during the post-season test – which takes place after the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit – for aspiring F1 drivers to showcase their skills.

In recent weeks momentum was building within Formula 1 for a season-ending Sprint Race featuring rookies, to be held following the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Now, following a Formula 1 Commission meeting plans for that race to happen at the end of the 2024 season have been shelved.
