BJP achieved a narrow victory in the assembly polls with 39.94% votes versus Congress’s 39.09%. However, the BJP retained power for a third term in the state by securing 48 seats, while the Congress won 37.

A day after Congress leaders rejected the Haryana Assembly poll results, the Election Commission on Wednesday wrote to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge saying the statements were “far from a legitimate part of free speech” and a step towards “undemocratic rejection of the will of the people”.

The Commission said it has also noted the statements of Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, terming the Haryana results as "unexpected" and that the party proposes to analyse the same and approach the EC with its complaints.
