After days of record-breaking temperatures, California's October heat wave is beginning to retreat. A cooling trend is expected to begin Tuesday through the rest of the week.

Similarly temperatures in Yuma, Arizona broke a 28-year record, reaching 112 degrees Fahrenheit, while more than 50 other heat records were broken throughout the American Southwest on that same Wednesday. Overall at least 125 locations from the Rocky Mountains to the West Coast have broken temperature records since the start of the month.

Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at 1 p.m., all but ensuring that fans and players will be out in the heat of the day.

“All of the heat warnings and advisories — they’ve all been extended,” NWS meteorologist Nicole Sarment said. “We’ve got a tiny disturbance (Friday), and the main threat from that will be an increase in winds, and there’s some degree of moisture. But this isn’t over yet.”
