San Francisco started off October on a hot note, with parts of the city registering temperatures as high as 95 degrees on an unusually warm start to the first full month of autumn.

At least 10 places in the Bay Area set record-high temperatures Sunday amid an unusual October heat wave. San Francisco’s downtown reached 97 degrees, surpassing the previous Oct. 6 record of 94 set in 1992,

An abnormal autumn heat wave continued to bake the western United States over the weekend, setting temperature records in cities like San Francisco and Denver that hadn’t been touched in decades.

"We see a lot of guests coming from Sacramento, the East Bay, even the Central Valley will come up for overnight, just to get away from the heat because it's so unbearable," said Bob Partrite, CEO of Fog Harbor Fish House at Pier 39 in San Francisco.
