In just 5 days, the park has turned away 173 commercial vehicles from using the curvy two-lane road. There’s a new plan to allow overnight traffic.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -In a recent release, the Great Smoky National Park announced that US 441/Newfound Gap Road is now open 24 hours a day.

In just a 24-hour period, the park turned away more than 45 large commercial vehicles trying to use the steep, curvy two-lane road.

Park officials continue to advise visitors to reschedule trips to the park, which still has closures and limited emergency resources after Helene.
