AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas man whose execution was halted after a last-ditch maneuver by lawmakers who believe Robert Roberson did not kill his 2-year-old daughter was expected to testify before a state House panel on Monday, four days after he had been scheduled to die by lethal injection.

An East Texas man scheduled to be executed late last week but saved by lawmakers’ novel legal move could testify Monday afternoon after he was subpoenaed by a state House Committee. The hearing will be historic as it is the first time a condemned prisoner in Texas has testified before state lawmakers.

Just four days ago, Roberson was minutes away from being executed while a flurry of legal motions and appeals ended with the Texas Supreme Court issuing a stay. On Monday, he's set to testify to a state committee.
