Detroit Tigers designated hitter Kerry Carpenter clubbed a go-ahead three-run home run off Cleveland Guardians All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase in the ninth inning of Game 2 of their American League Division Series on Monday to break a scoreless tie.

Clase, pitching for more than one inning for just the second time this season, allowed three runs in the ninth inning as Detroit ralled for a 3-0 victory in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. Kerry Carpenter’s three-run homer in the ninth tied the best-of-five series at 1-1.

With the exception of one game, this has been a thrilling and action packed postseason, and Game 2 of the ALDS between the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers (DET 3, CLE 0) was no exception. Likely Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal punched out eight batters in seven shutout innings and four Guardians pitchers matched him zero for zero Monday afternoon.
