Google Chrome has begun to phase out uBlock Origin. The developer of the free ad blocker, Raymond Hill, recently reposted a screenshot that shows Chrome automatically turning off uBlock Origin because it is “no longer supported.

Google's Chrome browser is set to cripple effective ad-blockers like uBlock Origin, sparking user outrage and exposing the tech giant's disregard for privacy.

The writing is almost literally on the wall for Chrome’s most popular ad blockers. After months of warnings that extensions like uBlock Origin would be removed after Chrome’s Manifest V3 extension update, Google is now telling Chrome users who try to download it from the Chrome Web Store that it “may soon no longer be supported.”

Google's Chrome Web Store is now warning that the uBlock Origin ad blocker and other extensions may soon be blocked as part of the company's deprecation of the Manifest V2 extension specification.

The browser is doing so as part of Google's plan to phase out older Manifest V2 extensions to bolster Chrome's security. Still, some uBlock Origin users aren't happy about the change.

Google appears to be turning the screw on ad blockers, with an indication that it is turning off uBlock Origin.

According to recent user reports, uBlock Origin is quickly disappearing from the Chrome Web Store. The official page for the ad-blocking extension now states that it

Google's Manifest V3 is phasing out uBlock Origin due to limitations on content blocking. uBlock Origin Lite is not a sufficient replacement and lacks granular controls, and doesn't work against anti-ad-blocking measures.
